Carpet and footprint buying guide

Carpet and footprint buying guide

When buying a footprint we recommend you leave at least 5cm each side to allow it to be fully covered by the tent.

Less is generally more when searching for a near fit. If you find a footprint that matches the width, but is 40cm too short it can still provide excellent protection for your groundsheet – just leave the back of the tent uncovered as that is normally the area that sees the least wear.

The opposite is true when searching for a carpet to fit your tent. If presented with two options, one being too wide and one too narrow, we advise you pick the wider option and fold it in.

Please note that footprints and carpets are cut to match specific tents and the measurements provided do not always represent a square profile but the shapes can be seen on the floorplans provided in this guide.

We do not have universal footprints. As a general rule, our footprints are produced to fit a given tent within the same season. However, it is usually possible to find a footprint that almost fits, but we cannot guarantee this. Please see the above procedure to find alternatives.

This should not cause any problems. We advise you to follow our guidance on how to find a footprint that fits your tent.

Procedure - Footprints

1. Find the dimensions and shape of your tent

Feel free to search for the tent on Google if you don't have the dimensions. They are available at several of our retailers even if they are not available on our website.

2. Find a groundsheet with matching or similar dimensions

Go to our tent footprint page Outwell Footprints or find our home page and select: TENTS > FOOTPRINTS. Pan your cursor over the groundsheet and find one that matches the dimensions and shape.

Note: Be aware that the footprint needs to be smaller than the maximum dimensions of your tent otherwise it has the potential to collect water in rainy weather, which is not desirable. To ensure this, the alternative footprint you choose should be smaller. It is recommended that you cut it to be shorter (both in length and width) if this is not already the case. If your tent has an irregular shape, look for a footprint that protects the rectangular part of your tent. Follow the same procedure as above.

1. Find the dimensions and shape of the part of the tent where you want a carpet

Feel free to search for the tent on Google if you don't have the measurements. They are available at several of our retailers even if they are not available on our website.

2. Find a carpet with matching or similar dimensions

Go to our tent carpet page Outwell Carpets or find our home page and select: TENTS > CARPETS. Pan your cursor over the carpets and find one that matches the dimensions and shape of your tent.

Note: Be aware that the carpet may be slightly larger than the maximum dimensions of your tent, but will bend against the side walls, which is not desirable. It is though preferred over a carpet that is too small. It is recommended to fold it to avoid the above problem. If your tent has an irregular shape, look for a carpet that covers the rectangular part of your tent. Follow the same procedure as above.
